Este libro muestra como el sentimiento de lucha se apoder de los jvenes msicos de Juchitn, Oaxaca, durante los aos setenta, quienes transformaron el canto popular festivo, caracteristco de la regin, en una msica que tansmita un espirtu de lucha, convirtindola en un canto nuevo, que reclamaba justicia y libertad para su pueblo. Este ttulo expone la importancia de observar cmo las manifestaciones culturales populares msica y canto, adquieren un nuevo papel en el proceso histrico en la lucha de la Coalicin Obrera Campesina Estudiantil del Istmo (COCEI), en Juchitn, Oaxaca, que fueron determinadas por las diferentes circunstancias polticas, sociales y econmicas que se presentaron en la regin, pasando a formar parte integral del movimiento popular. Observaremos que este canto juchiteco se enmarc en los procesos musicales que se presentaron a nivel nacional e internacional. Es en este contexto, que los cantautores se transformaron en sujetos histricos y parte importante de la resistencia popular.
