Esta investigacin revisa las caractersticas de la economa chilena entre los aos 1928 y 1958, evaluando la hiptesis del desarrollo frustrado. De acuerdo a esta hiptesis, en ese perodo Chile habra presentado crecimiento insuficiente, una agricultura estancada y un desequilibrio entre el desarrollo poltico y el econmico. Esta tesis entrega elementos que cuestionan supuestos e implicaciones de dicha hiptesis. La conclusin general es que el papel de las polticas pblicas debe ser tomado en consideracin como una explicacin de las condiciones de la economa chilena en el perodo 19281958.
