Entretanto y mientras se lleva a cabo la operacin en la que participan Philip Hull y Laura Baha, ella escribe unas cartas ntimas cuyo destinatario no es Hull sino el director de un peridico de gran tirada. El lado fro de la almohada pone en cuestin el conflicto entre el individuo y la colectividad pues, como ya dijera Marx, la esencia humana no es algo abstracto inherente a cada individuo sino que es, en su realidad, el conjunto de las relaciones sociales; pregunta por las historias que esperamos, interioriza el papel de lo no imaginable y plantea el sentido de defender hoy la revolucin cubana.Como en sus novelas anteriores, Gopegui configura la narracin en torno a la consciencia de ser narracin (Miguel ngel Prez Aporta), precisamente para no adherirse al efecto inquietantemente natural de las fantasas. Sin embargo, en esta ocasin, ha querido dar un paso ms. No slo mantener la conciencia de lo contradictorio sino poner la contradiccin en movimiento. O tal vez, en la distancia, ajustarse a las palabras de Musil: La historia de la literatura trata de comprenderlo y deducirlo todo. Sin embargo, nosotros hemos de intentar llegar a valoraciones.
