En la Argentina de los aos noventa del siglo XX, se impuso como lgica de funcionamiento del Estado el concepto de eficientismo economicista. Producindose una profunda reorganizacin de los medios de comunicacin a partir de la conformacin de multimedios. Los procesos de privatizacin, concentracin e internacionalizacin del sector, estuvieron ntimamente relacionados con la reestructuracin del modelo econmico, dentro del desarrollo de las leyes de mercado y su intrusin en la produccin cultural. Se convirti al ciudadano en consumidor y la comunicacin se disolvi en actitudes banalizadas. La utilizacin que la poltica hizo de los medios, ciment la transformacin del imaginario social imperante de modo tal que las consecuencias y aspectos negativos del menemismo quedaran opacados por esa construccin meditica. Estas estrategias se aunaron para producir un efecto general de despolitizacin o desencanto hacia la poltica. Si bien el anlisis se sita a fines del siglo pasado, en un territorio y contexto particular, la vertiginosa evolucin de la realidad tiende a que no pierda vigencia el marco estructural y sus consecuencias en la sociedad globalizada que habitamos.
