En 1970 apareci en Mxico la primera edicin de una amplia antologa de textos de Gramsci, preparada y traducida por Sacristn. En la elaboracin de ese volumen Sacristn escribi una extensa introduccin en forma de estudio sociobiogrfico que, por razones de ndole diversa, qued interrumpido en el relato de las circunstancias que llevaron a la detencin de Gramsci y a su ingreso en prisin en 1926. Con esta edicin ofrecemos ese escrito entonces no publicado y posteriormente perdido durante muchos aos. Mucho ms que la simple presentacin del hilo biogrfico, el texto compone una interpretacin acerca de la relacin entre la actividad y el ideario gramsciano que gira en torno a dos conceptos a los que el propio Gramsci recurre con frecuencia en sus escritos: el de orden y el de tiempo. En El Orden y el Tiempo se exponen los elementos personales y del contexto histrico que ms influyeron en el desarrollo de uno de los pensamientos ms audaces y originales del siglo XX. Se relatan los inicios de su militancia poltica, la recepcin de los sucesos de 1917 en Rusia, las discusiones en el seno de la III Internacional, su relacin con el grupo L'Ordine Nuovo, la fundacin del PCI, la lucha contra los atropellos del fascismo de Mussolini, etc. Todos esos sucesos se anudan alrededor de la figura de Gramsci, solapndose con sus vivencias ms familiares.
