La conquista de Mlaga en 1487 trajo consigo una ingente tarea de organizacin del espacio a todos los niveles: era preciso dotar a la ciudad de un gobierno municipal, as como de unos ingresos que llenaran sus arcas. Como directrices bsicas los Reyes Catlicos otorgaron las Ordenanas de 1489. Sin embargo, el proceso dist mucho de ser esttico, y las necesidades del cabildo y de la ciudad se fueron manifestando en el transcurso del tiempo. Para resolverlas, en aos sucesivos los monarcas concedieron distintos privilegios destinados fundamentalmente a solventar el problema endmico de una economa municipal insolvente. Algunos de los textos se vieron confirmados en el Privilegio de Mlaga promulgado en 1501, reproducido y analizado en el presente trabajo.
