En Mxico, el crecimiento urbano descontrolado y la falta de planificacin, ha generado importantes desequilibrios territoriales, y desafos urbanos, uno de los ms preocupantes es el de la vivienda, la falta de infraestructura y acceso a servicios para los pobres que habitan en los asentamientos urbanos precarios. El inters de esta investigacin es la vivienda marginal ubicada en la periferia de los tiraderos a cielo abierto. El libro se estructura en dos partes, en la primera se contextualiza el crecimiento urbano en Amrica Latina y Mxico as como los problemas generados desde el enfoque de la pobreza. Tambin se presenta un marco terico conceptual de la vivienda y su relacin con la calidad de vida y sustentabilidad urbana, reflexionando sobre el problema de la vivienda marginal en Mxico. En la segunda parte, se aborda el caso de estudio en la zona metropolitana del sur de Tamaulipas.Se intenta interpretar el fenmeno en base a los datos obtenidos del anlisis de caso. Finalmente se generan dos propuestas para mejorar las condiciones de las familias que habitan en estos asentamientos marginales y por ende la calidad de vida de la ciudad en que se encuentran insertos.
