El advenimiento de nuevas pruebas diagnsticas ha limitado la utilizacin masiva del EEG como mtodo de diagnstico. En la actualidad sus indicaciones estn ms restringidas, aunque no existe consenso universal sobre el cual se apoyen en forma concreta. No hay demasiada informacin publicada sobre uso del EEG en la prctica clnica de rutina. La limitada evidencia publicada sugiere que los conceptos errneos sobre las capacidades del EEG son comunes y que, consecuentemente, su uso es subptimo. A su vez, los resultados del EEG dependen en forma directa del especialista que los informa, y la interpretacin de los resultados en el contexto clnico depende exclusivamente del mdico solicitante. Se propone, mediante un estudio observacional, demostrar cmo influye el resultado de un registro electroencefalogrfico en la toma de decisiones del equipo mdico de un hospital de comunidad.
