La finalidad de este trabajo es recoger todas las manifestaciones teatrales que tuvieron lugar en la ciudad de Murcia durante el periodo de la guerra civil. En l encontramos interesante informacin acerca de compaas, actores, directores, obras que pasaron por la ciudad. Ello permite una comparacin con las carteleras de los grandes ncleos teatrales la Espaa republicana durante la guerra civil espaola. De la misma forma, completa la historia de la cartelera teatral de la ciudad de Murcia iniciada por otros investigadores. Sus principales fuentes son los peridicos murcianos de esos aos, pero tambin otras fuentes bibliogrficas. La lectura de este trabajo muestra que muchas circunstancias que se produjeron en el mbito teatral fueron similares a las de otras zonas de la Espaa no nacional. Murcia presenta una importante actividad teatral en este momento crucial de nuestra historia; sin embargo, su importancia no radica en que se llevara a cabo una deseada reforma sociocultural, sino en que los teatros continuaron abiertos durante toda la contienda, siendo junto con el cine, el principal medio de entretenimiento del pueblo. Las carteleras son una mera continuacin de lo que se estaba representando antes del inicio de la guerra, aunque se produjeron algunos cambios. Entre ellos pequeos intentos de crear un teatro de urgencia o el desprecio hacia algunos autores, antes permanentes en los escenarios y muy aplaudidos, y ahora rechazados por haberse declarado afectos al bando contrario. Si bien el pblico segua acudiendo a ver sus obras, las compaas ya no contaban con tantos ttulos de ste autor, y stos eran frecuentemente atacados por los peridicos.
