El Taller de Grfica Popular fue fundado en 1937 por un grupo de artistas plsticos que buscaban hacer llegar el arte a los obreros y campesinos y vincularse a sus luchas sociales. El TGP desempe un papel importante en Mxico en la lucha antifascista. All se crearon carteles, volantes, mantas para las manifestaciones callejeras y telones para los mtines; peridicos con las tradicionales calaveras del Da de Muertos, y hasta la decoracin de carros alegricos para los desfiles obreros y antifascistas. El arte grfico forma parte, al lado del muralismo, de los cimientos del arte plstico que se desarroll en Mxico en el siglo XX. Leopoldo Mndez, Pablo O Higgins, Luis Arenal, Jos Chvez Morado, Alfredo Zalce, ngel Bracho y Xavier Guerrero, entre otros, fundaron el TGP. Esta obra muestra, con profusas ilustraciones, la historia de este centro de creacin artstica.
