A pesar de que en el ao 2003, en Espaa, los estudios de criminologa fueron homologados, se convirtieron en Licenciatura y posteriormente en Grado, la figura profesional del criminlogo, todava no est reconocida en Espaa. Esto quiere decir que, hoy en da, a principios de 2012, no hay ningn puesto de trabajo dentro de las Instituciones Oficiales espaolas que requiera para el ejercicio de sus funciones conocimientos en el mbito criminolgico, o al menos, no se necesita estar en posesin de ningn ttulo oficial de criminlogo. Algo sorprendente si atendemos a lo que sucede en los pases vecinos. Sin ir ms lejos, Blgica tiene en todas las fiscalas especiales del Estado un criminlogo y en ese pas se demandan criminlogos como en el nuestro abogados, mdicos o profesionales de cualquier otra profesin. Tampoco es fcilmente entendible que en las prisiones no exista un experto en el mbito de la criminologa para realizar informes criminolgicos o de posible reincidencia de los reclusos, por citar algn ejemplo. sta, es la razn de haber escrito este libro. Conocer el trabajo que podran desempear los criminlogos dentro del mbito de las Instituciones Penitenciarias.
