Despite her own privileged upbringing, Ela Bhatt decided to dedicate herself to improving the lives of India's poorest and most oppressed citizensespecially it's women. In the midst of Indias bustling economy, hundreds of thousands of poor women work in unsafe or unstable environments for little money and no benefits. The organization founded by Bhatt, the SelfEmployed Womens Association, functions as a union for 250,000 selfemployed women, operates a womens bank, and helps empower women to help themselves. Her vision inspired thousands of poor women to join together to transform their livesand their world.
By changing our most important processes and
products, we have already made a big leap forward. This ranges from the
increased use of more sustainable fibers to the use of more
environmentally friendly printing processes to the development of
efficient waste management in our value chain.
