Erst im Januar 2009 wurde der alten Welt erneut vorgefhrt, wie gro die Abhngigkeit von Energieimporten ist. Energieversorgungssicherheit ist eng mit dem Thema Energieimportabhngigkeit verknpft. Fr die Europische Union (EU) wird die Abhngigkeit von Importen von derzeit 50 Prozent des Primrenergieverbrauchs auf bis zu 70 Prozent bis 2030 anwachsen. Insgesamt werden aktuell 45 Prozent der Einfuhren von Erdl aus der Region Naher und Mittlerer Osten und 40 Prozent des gesamten Ergasbedarfs aus Russland bezogen. Die gesamte Wirtschaftskraft und der Einfluss in der internationalen Politik der alten Welt' sind von der kontinuierlichen Versorgung mit Energie abhngig. Die europischen Lagersttten (z. B. in Norwegen) reichen schon lange nicht mehr aus, um dem Bedarf nachzukommen. Seit einiger Zeit konzentriert sich die EU deshalb auf eine strategische Ellipse im asiatischarabischen Raum. Dabei haben soziale Unruhen, Regimewechsel und Brgerkriege, aber auch zwischenstaatliche Militrkonflikte Auswirkungen auf eine sichere Versorgung. Es kommt zu einer Verschiebung der Krfte in der Welt. Durch die Verknappung des Angebots wird die Position der Frder und Lieferlnder deutlich gestrkt, da sie ihre Energielieferungen in die attraktivsten Mrkte lenken knnen. Europische Abnehmer mssen sich mittelfristig wieder auf Rohlpreise jenseits der 150 USDollar pro Barrel einstellen. Insofern ist die Sicherstellung einer kontinuierlichen und ausreichenden Energieversorgung eine der zentralen Herausforderungen im 21. Jahrhunderts fr die EU und Deutschland. Im
