This book is a catalogue of gold marks used by goldsmiths from England, Scotland and Ireland. Details in the book include assay methods, London Goldsmith histories from 1327, list of goldsmiths, guilds & assay offices, assay territory details, and a list of unabscribed marks which can not be definitely allocated to an origin. The index includes marks that utilized alpha characters or a design inscription (eg no letters but the symbol is an acron, so the index will list it under the word "acorn").This is a painstaking second publication of the original first published by Macmillian and Co. in 1921. The Dover edition is the first republication. It includes the text from the original First Edition preface as well as original publication details.
