Ubicada en el norte de Mxico, la ciudad de Chihuahua figura entre aquellas con un importante nmero de asociaciones, diferentes e innovadoras formas organizativas de accin colectiva, capacidades y experiencias que les permiten trascender al nivel nacional, y cierta propensin para lograr alianzas con la finalidad de atender problemticas locales diversas. En esta investigacin se plantea como pregunta de investigacin Qu es lo que permite que las asociaciones de la ciudad de Chihuahua se caractericen por encontrarse en un nmero considerable, formas innovadoras de resolver problemas, y crecientes alianzas? Retomando los planteamientos de la teora de la dependencia de recursos y la dependencia de trayectoria se plantea que la configuracin de un entorno asociativo favorable en la ciudad de Chihuahua es posible al instaurarse una trayectoria histrica de recursos relacionales y estratgicos permitiendo de manera relativa ciertas condiciones estables y ptimas para las asociaciones. La investigacin propone una nueva forma de anlisis del entorno de las asociaciones y abre el debate acerca de la estabilidad en el tiempo de los entornos asociativos.
