Wenn uns die 60er Jahre durch die Aktivitten des Club of Rome klar ge macht haben, da die irdischen Rohstoffquellen begrenzt sind, so machten uns die 80er klar, da die Oberflche der Erde und die Atmosphre nur eine begrenzte Aufnahmefhigkeit fr feste, flssige und gasfrmige Reststoffe haben. Die logische Lsung des Problems liegt in der Rckkehr zu geschlos senen Kreislufen, wie sie die Natur fr alle Prozesse in menschlich relevanten Zeitabschnitten nutzt. Vermeidung, Verwertung und Recycling sind die aktuellen Ausdrcke fr diese Rckkehr in den natrlichen Kreislauf, der das Problem der Roh stoffbeschaffung und der Abfallbeseitigung lst. Der Weg dahin scheint mit Einsatz moderner Technik durchaus gangbar, er ist aber mit wirtschaftlichen und politischen Schwierigkeiten gespickt. Die vorliegende Arbeit befat sich mit der methodischen Planung regional vernetzter StofffluUmwandlungsstrukturen, die auf eine mglichst wirt schaftliche und weitgehende Verwertung von Reststoffen abzielen. Speziell werden Reststoffe aus der Rauchgasreinigung betrachtet, die bei Anlagen zur Verbrennung fossiler Energietrger anfallen. Dazu erfolgt auch die Entwick lung optimierter Entsorgungsalternativen fr das Land BadenWrttemberg. Aufgebaut wurde auf einem umfangreichen Forschungsprojekt, das im Auf trag des Umweltministeriums BadenWrttemberg am Institut fr Industri elle Produktion der Universitt Karlsruhe (TH) in den Jahren 19871990 durchgefhrt wurde.
