Die zu beanstandende Aussage tauchte genau so und hufig auch in anderer Form immer wieder im eigenen Geographieunterricht auf. Was hier in seiner Tragweite noch harmlos erscheinen mag, steht in der Tat symptomatisch fr eine weit verbreitete Nachlssigkeit im Umgang mit Karten. Das Bewusstsein vieler Schler ber die Leistung von Karten und die Vorteile eines sicheren Umgangs mit Karten aller Art in der Lebenspraxis ist zum Teil erschreckend. In diesen Zusammenhang reihen sich weitere uerungen im Geographieunterricht ein, wie: irgendwo da unten" oder irgendwo da oben". Der Kommentar eines Schlers: Mein Papa hat Navi im Auto", sorgte sogar einmal fr allgemeine und anhaltende Belustigung in der Klasse. Man kann dem auf der einen Seite mit Humor begegnen, auf der anderen Seite offenbaren sich hier jedoch einige grundlegende Probleme: die Schwierigkeiten bei der Orientierung auf Karten, das Unvermgen der zielgerichteten Informationsentnahme, die Ratlosigkeit bei der Interpretation und Bewertung von Karteninhalten. Es gleicht einer Sisyphusarbeit, trotz kontinuierlicher Kartenarbeit, immer wieder die angesprochenen Nachlssigkeiten zu korrigieren, das Bewusstsein im Umgang mit Karten zu schrfen und die Methodenkompetenz der Schler zu entwickeln. Dabei ist die Kartenarbeit eine originr geographische Arbeitstechnik, die Karte ist Medium des Lernens und der Erkenntnis und Hauptgegenstand der Entwicklung von Methodenkompetenz im Geographieunterricht.
