La pulicosis en pequeos animales es un problema comn y los aspectos de control representan costos elevados y dificultades de implementacin, de ah la necesidad de evaluar aspectos epidemiolgicos relacionados con esta parasitosis. Durante el primer semestre de 2007, fueron atendidos 170 animales (140 perros y 30 gatos) en el Hospital Veterinario de la Universidad de Caldas (Manizales, Colombia), a quienes se implement un instrumento epidemiolgico, el cual report un total de 3.697 pulgas recolectadas por el mtodo de peine. Tambin se evaluaron los diferentes grados de infestacin, y las afecciones dermatolgicas de estos pacientes, relacionadas con la presencia del parsito. Adicionalmente, el estudio permiti considerar variables como raza, sexo, edad, tipo de pelaje, procedencia, rea de descanso,lugares de preferencia, tipo de piso, presencia de otros animales y la efectividad de los tratamientos antipulgas realizados por los propietarios, obteniendo as un perfil epidemiolgico de la zona.
