Salmonella enterica es un patgeno que afecta principalmente el tracto gastrointestinal y es causante de una alta morbimortalidad en todo el mundo, especialmente en pases de recursos limitados. Este libro dirigido a estudiantes y profesionales en el rea de la salud ofrece informacin sobre la caracterizacin de cepas de Salmonella enterica de origen clnico y alimento. Comprende un anlisis fenotpico mediante pruebas microbiolgicas, serolgicas y susceptibilidad antimicrobiana, hasta la aplicacin de diferentes tcnicas moleculares basadas en PCR, para determinar genes de patogenicidad y de resistencia, as como la tipificacin y diversidad clonal empleando RapPCR y PFGE. El conocimiento de la dinmica epidemiolgica de las infecciones por Salmonella y el estudio de los factores genticos involucrados en el incremento de la resistencia antimicrobiana, es la clave para establecer medidas efectivas para el control, prevencin y vigilancia de la infeccin ocasionada por este grupo bacteriano y minimizar la diseminacin de genes de resistencia en la poblacin bacteriana.
