La lettura degli epigrammi, pertanto, ci permette non solo di comprendere levoluzione del Grillparzer uomo e intellettuale, ma anche di leggere diacronicamente e in profondit le vicende austriache ed europee nei pi disparati ambiti, incontrandone dal vivo i pi significativi artefici (Hegel, A. von Humboldt, Schiller, Wagner, Metternich, ecc.).Lepigramma non nasce per in Grillparzer solo come resa poetica immediata di unintuizione fulminante, spesso anche il modo pi rapido, acuto e graffiante per sintetizzare il proprio pensiero sui pi diversi aspetti del reale, dalla politica allestetica, dalla letteratura alla musica, dalla filosofia alla storiografia. In una cospicua percentuale di casi gli epigrammi vanno quindi anche letti quali frammenti privilegiati di riflessione al punto da potersi considerare una sezione contenutisticamente rilevante del pensiero di Grillparzer.
