Auf welche kommunikativen Bedrfnisse reagieren sie, welche Rolle spielen sie bei der Bildung, Begrenzung und Kohsion einer Epoche? Bei der Untersuchung dieser Fragen ist Zusammenarbeit zwischen einem synchronerklrendem und einem diachronverstehendem Zugriff unverzichtbar. So versammelt der Band Beitrge aus Literatur und Wissenschaftsgeschichte ebenso wie aus Linguistik und Philosophie und geht interdisziplinr der Genese, den Strukturen und Funktionen von epochalen Metaphernkonjunkturen nach.
