Unter bilanzanalytischen Gesichtspunkten betrachtet, knnen deutsche mittelstndische Unternehmen als marode bezeichnet werden. Beleg hierfr ist ihre niedrige Ausstattung mit Eigenkapital. Im Durchschnitt hat der deutsche Mittelstand eine Eigenkapitalquote von 7,5%. Diese Eigenkapitalschwche erlangt im Zuge der Einfhrung von Ratingsystemen in Verbindung mit Basel II eine neue Brisanz. Da Kreditinstitute schon heute ihre Kunden nach bestimmten Bonittskriterien einstufen und die Eigenkapitalquote hierbei eine bedeutende Rolle spielt, besteht die berechtigte Sorge der Unterversorgung des deutschen Mittelstandes mit Fremdkapital bzw. der Versorgung nur zu nicht tragbar hohen Konditionen.
