Andererseits steht Erwachsenenbildung vor der politischen Aufgabe, Chancengerechtigkeit und das lebensbegleitende Lernen zu frdern, einen Ausgleich entgangener Bildungschancen zu ermglichen, interkulturelle Kompetenzen zu vermitteln und einen Beitrag zur politischen Bildung zu leisten. ffentlich organisierte Erwachsenenbildung bedarf jedoch staatlicher Finanzierung, ordnungspolitischer Steuerung und ffentlicher Verantwortung, aus der sich Bund und Lnder, aufgrund der Verknappung ffentlicher Haushalte und sinkender Finanzbudgets, zunehmend zurckziehen. Damit rckt eine konomisierung der Weiterbildung in den Vordergrund, Begriffe wie Wirtschaftlichkeit, Effizienz und Effektivitt erhalten zunehmenden Stellenwert in der Debatte ber die Entwicklung der ffentlichen Weiterbildung. Das Ziel dieser Ausfhrungen ist demzufolge die Untersuchung, ob sich Erwachsenenbildung in einem Spannungsfeld von pdagogischer Zielsetzung und marktwirtschaftlicher Organisation befindet und inwieweit sich diese Divergenz auf die Volkshochschule als traditionellem Bildungstrger zwischen bildungspolitischem Selbstverstndnis und konomischer Dienstleistung abbilden lsst.
