La investigacin que se presenta es una aportacin a los estudios regionales en espacios pluritnicos, particularmente se analiza la construccin de los espacios y las sociedades regionales de la Costa Chica de Oaxaca, ubicadas en la costa del Pacfico mexicano. Se trata de un estudio antropolgico que muestra la dinmica social y poltica regional presente en los procesos de cambio social y en la construccin del poder. Se precisa el cambio desde el anlisis de los procesos histricos, de larga duracin y de reciente alcance, tanto poltico, econmico y cultural. Se muestra la conflictividad y la accin colectiva a travs de diferentes campos sociales: la lucha por la tierra, los complejos productivos, la intervencin del Estado en la organizacin de los espacios y la movilizacin de los actores para incidir en las decisiones locales a travs de la competencia electoral. Este conjunto de actores compiten con capitales diferenciados que a la vez, encarnan diferentes significados y prcticas culturales (nunca puras, ms bien hbridas), mismas que tienen efectos sobre la cultura poltica dominante, sea para preservarla o para desafiarla.
