El pueblo espanol, invocado siempre, a derecha e izquierda, por cuantos le han laminado, ignorado y desaparecido, no ha concluido, como la propia Espana, de construirse nunca, y de las causas y de los hechos decisivos y emblematicos de esa realidad es de donde pretende beber este libro, que se desea, por lo demas, provocador (del pensamiento!), insolito y divertido. La significacion del autor, prerepublicano de la Ilustracion (descendiente y admirador de Godoy) y republicano de Azana, librepensador en sentido estricto, e independiente, pueden contribuir, sin duda, a la difusion/controversia del libro. De una parte, se podrian tomar hechos, sucesos y comportamientos ''populares'' de hoy para, desenrrollando el hilo del tiempo (aunque en Espana, como queda dicho, el tiempo parece vivir detenido) llegar a las claves de su origen. De otra, podriase exhumar el protagonismo olvidado del pueblo, reconocerselo y devolverselo, mediante el vero relato de su participacion estelar, aunque siempre anonima, en la Historia. Y se podria, tambien, iniciar el libro con un asunto tan emblematico de todo lo dicho anteriormente como la maldicion que pesa sobre el propio Museo del Pueblo Espanol, siempre fantasmal e imposible, el unico museo del mundo cuyos fondos, la totalidad de ellos, se pudre en sotanos y almacenes. / The Spanish people do not exist, or at least, have been absent from great parts of their history.
