This book presents twenty magnificent examples of the grand rural homes built mainly between the mid 19th and mid20th centuries. The estancias, or 'homesteads,' are characteristic features of the Buenos Aires pampa. Some of them are works of art, highlighted by surrounding parks. The work of architects Hernan Barbero Sarzabal and Sergio Castiglione offers us a clear picture of some of the most representative 'homesteads' of the province of Buenos Aires, and inspires us to imagine the life of those estate owners who were, at the time, one of the most dynamic motors of Argentinean progress. Each example includes excellent images by Luis Abregu and documentation from private archives, architectural plans, portraits of the founders, photographs and period paintings, drawings and sketches made by present day artists expressly for this purpose.
