Product Description Based in Paris, Esther ShalevGerz is internationally recognized for her seminal contributions to the field of art in the public realm and her consistent investigation into the nature of democracy, cultural memory and the politics of public space. In her commemorative monuments, installations, video and photographic works, questions about history are posed and its relationship with collective memory is investigated. WHITEOUT: Between Telling and Listening presents a multidisciplinary portrait comprised of fugitive stories that exist between the actual and the fictional, and the imagined and the experienced. Essayists address the work through a broader discussion of the artist's practice and offer a formal analysis in the context of historical approaches to photography and video. The publication also includes a contribution from Swedish academic Fanny Soderback, who worked with ShalevGerz on the production of the piece. In English and French. About the Author ABOUT THE ARTIST: Born in Lithuania, raised in Israel and resident in Paris since 1984, Esther ShalevGerz has exhibited most recently at Galerie Nationale Jeu de Paume and Ecole Normale Superieure, 2010 (Paris) and Moderna Museet (2010), Stockholm.
