Los jesuitas llegaron a la regin en Marzo de 1599. En 1602 la casa de Asuncin, fue cerrada y los religiosos fueron trasladados a Crdoba. Los jesuitas compran Atospampa y Atumpampa a los herederos de los BaigorrCarranza en 1726, luego se siguen extendiendo y a la fecha de su expulsin ordenada por Carlos III, en 1767, abarcaban casi todo el departamento actual de Calamuchita. La estancia San Ignacio de los Santos Ejercicios de Calamuchita fue la sexta (ltima) adquisicin jesutica y la ms grande de la provincia. Ocup un extenso territorio de 3.350 Km2 y fue proyectada para mantener con el fruto de su produccin los ejercicios espirituales que realizaran los religiosos en la provincia del Paraguay. El Inventario Ambiental es el primer paso de todo Estudio de Impacto Ambiental y tambin se utiliza en estudios histricos retrospectivos como el que se presenta en esta publicacin. Estos estudios son muy importantes porque una vez finalizado el anlisis retrospectivo se puede comparar con la situacin actual, dando por resultado el cambio ambiental de la zona.
