Dedicado a: Mis padres Gladys y Antonio, y mi hermana Marcia...que siempre estn.... El estudio tiene como objetivo general establecer la variacin del largo de traqueidas para la especie Sequoia sempervirens D. Don (Endl). crecida en Chile, de acuerdo a su ubicacin en altura y dimetro en el rbol. Para el estudio se seleccionaron tres rboles pertenecientes a dos localidades, Antiquina; VIII Regin y Frutillar; X Regin. En cada rbol se seleccionaron 6 rodelas en altura, distanciadas cada una por 2,5 m aproximadamente, abarcando alturas totales de 12,5 m. Para el anlisis en dimetro se obtuvieron probetas a los aos N 5, 10, 15 y 20 por cada rodela, a su vez cada probeta tuvo su repeticin en el sentido medularmente opuesto. La medicin del largo de traqueidas se realiz mediante la proyeccin de la maceracin en una pantalla. Se midi cada traqueida con regla milimtrica graduada. La descripcin anatmica fue basada en la pauta de PHILLIPS, 1980.
