Es wird gezeigt, dass die Begrndung des Gedankens sittlicher Einsicht bei den einzelnen Autoren jeweils vermittelt ist mit einer Theorie der Gesamtverfassung der menschlichen Natur. Durch die Komplementaritt von ethischer und anthropologischer Reflexion wird zugleich die Ausbildung der Gedanken von Person und Selbst vorangetrieben, und es entsteht ein Spannungsverhltnis zwischen der Theorie persnlicher Identitt, Affektenlehre und Moralbegrndung. Vernderungen in der Begriffsbestimmung von Selbsterhaltung lassen zudem den bergang von der Theorie des Naturrechts zur Gesellschaftstheorie verstndlich werden.
