L'objectif de ce travail est de comparer d'un point de vue thorique et exprimental deux implmentations diffrentes d'un mme algorithme bas sur une mthode quasi Newton mmoire limite. Il s'agit d'un algorithme de minimisation numrique non linaire sans contraintes adapt la rsolution de problmes de grande taille. Le domaine d'application est l'assimilation de donnes en ocanographie. L'exprimentation numrique s'est faite sur un modle de prvisions ocanographiques relativement simple, le Shallow Water, avec un jeu de donnes pralablement fourni. Si la comparaison thorique rvle des divergences pertinentes entre les deux implmentations, les expriences menes montrent, par contre, que le jeu de donnes gnr sous des conditions particulires ne permet pas de mettre des diffrences de performances suffisamment en relief.
