So kann sie ber die Frage nach der ber nahme von Kulturgtern zusammen mit Wrtern auch dann Auskunft geben, wenn es sich nicht um Sachgter handelt, die durch Bodenfunde nachweisbar wren. Aber auch die Frage, wie in einer oder mehreren Sprachen ursprnglich das Kausalverhltnis gedacht und bezeichnet wurde, ist eine etymologische Fragestellung. Und dann ist auch an die Erschliessung der idg. Grundsprache des Neolithikums zu denken, und an die Neubildungen der heutigen Werbesprache usw. So vielfltig, wie Fragestellung und Ziele der Etymologie sind auch ihre Voraussetzungen, die seit der griechischen Philosophie und den altindischen Grammatikern diskutiert und im Laufe der Zeit differenziert wurde. Der Band soll in die praktische Arbeit des Etymologisierens und in das Verstndnis etymologischer Abhandlungen einfhren, knnte aber auch, da die etymologische Forschungsweise weitgehend die der historischen Sprachwissenschaft berhaupt ist, in gewissem Umfang als Einfhrung in die historische und vergleichende Sprachwissenschaft fr Germanisten angesehen werden.
