Lepsius 2004: 3, Mnch 1999: 249) und es gibt zahlreiche Vorstellungen darber, was Europische Identitt sein kann, sein sollte, bzw. nicht sein kann und nicht sollte (vgl. dazu Liebert 2009: 90). Fest steht, dass sich durch die Entstehung der Europischen Union ein institutionalisierter Herrschaftsverband' ausgebildet hat, der einer europischen Identittsbildung als Bezugsobjekt [im Sinne der politischen, kollektiven Identitt] dienen kann' (Lepsius 2006: 111). Daher behandelt diese Arbeit die Europische Identitt vor allem im Sinne kollektiver, politischer Identitt. Im ersten Teil wird die theoretische Konstruktion kollektiver und politischer Identitt untersucht und es wird versucht die Fragen zu beantworten, wie sich kollektive Identitt definiert und was unter politischer Identitt zu verstehen ist. Des weiteren soll im zweiten Teil der Arbeit analysiert werden, in welcher Form die Europische Identitt am ehesten vorstellbar ist, d.h. auf welcher identittsstiftenden Grundlage sie konstruiert werden kann: Dem geteilten Glauben an eine gemeinsame Geschichte, Grundwerte, Religion etc. oder der Realisierung eines politischen Funktionssystems auf Grundlage einer geteilten politischen Kultur (z.B. in From von Partizipationsrechten). Auf diese Weise kann dann vergleichend berprft werden, welches Konzept der europischen Gemeinschaft grundstzlich fruchtbarer und treffender wre: Europa als Erinnerungs oder Diskursgemeinschaft'?
