Wie ist dieses Phnomen angesichts der von Wissenschaft und Politik immer wieder konstatierten Unvergleichbarkeit des europischen Integrationsprozesses zu erklren? Ziel dieser Studie ist es, aus konstruktivistischer Perspektive den Einfluss tief verwurzelter nationaler Verfassungstraditionen auf den europischen Konstitutionalisierungsprozess anhand unterschiedlicher Modelle ber die Bildung und Aushandlung konstitutioneller Prferenzen zu analysieren. Konkret wird dabei untersucht, inwiefern die Delegierten des Europischen Konvents bei der Ausarbeitung des europischen Verfassungsvertrags von ihren nationalen konstitutionellen Erfahrungen geleitet wurden. Es zeigt sich, dass die 'Verfassung der EU' in erster Linie auf die Symbolik nationaler Verfassungen zurckgreift: Durch die Schaffung einer einheitlichen Verfassungsurkunde, die Ikonographie (Hymne, Fahne, Motto), die Etablierung von Kompetenzkategorien und den klassischen Duktus der Gewaltenteilung unterscheidet sich der Verfassungsvertrag auch am deutlichsten von den bisherigen Etappen im Konstitutionalisierungsprozess der EU.
