The Victoria and Albert Museum holds the finest and most wideranging collection of postclassical sculpture in the world. This book contains over 100 of the greatest masterpieces of the National Collection of Sculpture at the Museum, each of which is described in detail and beautifully illustrated.Through the book's pages it is possible to follow the development of sculpture from the Early Christian period to the beginning of the twentieth century. Amongst the finest pieces are a group of highly important ivory carvings from the Middle Ages, reliefs and figures in marble and terracotta by the greatest Italian sculptors, outstanding English eighteenthcentury sculptures on both a large and small scale, and major examples of works from Germany, the Netherlands, France and Spain.
