Nach der Berliner Konferenz (1884/85) teilten die europischen Gromchte den Schwarzen Kontinent untereinander auf. Noch whrend sie sich im Inneren Afrikas kriegerisch der Beute versicherten, bauten sie von der Kste her ein neues Zivilisationsgefge auf. Seit den 1890er Jahren wurden in allen hier ausgewhlten Territorien (Guinea, Goldkste, DeutschSdwest, Madagaskar, DeutschOst, Kenya) Kolonialzeitungen herausgegeben. Die Untersuchung erfat den Einflu der ffentlichkeit auf die Entscheidungen der Kolonialverwaltung. In Nahaufnahmen werden aussagekrftige Episoden aus der kolonialen Situation neu interpretiert, u.a. die Annexion Madagaskars (1894/96), die Verdrngung der Masai aus dem Rift Valley, die Ausschaltung der islamischen Herrscher im FutaDjalon, der Streit um die Diamantengewinne in der Wste Namib, die Ausbeutung der Goldvorkommen im Stammesland von Fante/Asante und die Ursachen des MajiMajiAufstandes (1905/6).
