Los habitantes de la Ciudad de Hermosillo han manifestado desde hace aos su inquietud respecto del aire que se respira, principalmente por la visible capa de polvo que cubre gran parte de la ciudad durante las maanas y muy marcadamente durante los perodos de invierno. Esta situacin ha podido ser llevada a trminos de mala calidad del aire al identificarse que un nmero considerable de das se rebasa el mximo permisible de partculas establecido por la normatividad mexicana. En el presente trabajo se determina la calidad del aire en tres puntos de la Ciudad de Hermosillo, Sonora, Mxico, incluyndose la determinacin de las concentraciones de partculas suspendidas totales (PST) y de los metales plomo, cadmio, nquel, cobre y cromo en el aire ambiente, comparndose dichas concentraciones con criterios o mximos permisibles; se realizan tambin anlisis estadsticos comparativos del comportamiento espacial y temporal, el trabajo incluy un perodo anual. Adicionalmente se analiz la correspondencia entre la variacin de la concentracin de cada elemento estudiado y algunos parmetros climticos como la temperatura ambiente, presin, humedad y condiciones de viento.
