Product DescriptionColombia ocupa el sexto lugar en produccin y el segundo en rendimiento de aguacate, solo superada por Israel. La produccin promedio en el departamento del Cesar ha disminuido de manera creciente, debido a factores limitantes del sistema productivo como son estreses biticos y abiticos. Entre los factores biticos, est la presencia de Phytophthora cinnamomi, agente causal de la tristeza del aguacatero, que ha ocasionado a nivel nacional, prdidas que oscilan entre 30 y 50%. En el Cesar, se produce exclusivamente aguacate criollo de raza antillana, en asocio con cultivos perennes y/o anuales. El sistema productivo predominante, se caracteriza por la tecnificacin baja, con gran variabilidad en el arreglo y nmero de rboles por hectrea; lo cual dificulta el clculo real de las reas establecidas y toneladas producidas al ao. La tolerancia a Phytophthora en los rboles criollos establecidos en la regin, an no ha sido valorada.
