Los humedales son ecosistemas de gran valor ecolgico, sometidos tradicionalmente a fuertes alteraciones, lo que indica su fragilidad y necesidad de adecuada proteccin y conservacin. Para lograrlo, se hace imprescindible analizarlos y emplear criterios globales y ecolgicos en el diseo de medidas para su gestin. Este libro recoge el estudio realizado en cuatro complejos hdricos epicontinentales situados en la regin de Terra Ch (NW de la Pennsula Ibrica). Uno es de origen hidrotermal, mientras que los dems tienen alimentacin hdrica mixta, y distinto grado de alteracin. Se realiz una evaluacin limnolgica comparativa de los humedales con el fin de obtener una aproximacin a la caracterizacin de su estado ecolgico, siguiendo los principios de la Directiva Marco del Agua europea. Para ello, se analiz la variacin espacial y temporal de los parmetros fisicoqumicos de las aguas y la composicin de las comunidades de invertebrados acuticos. El estudio plantea una metodologa para la evaluacin ambiental de humedales y la identificacin de sistemas de referencia no alterados y una herramienta para tcnicos involucrados en la gestin de cuencas hidrogrficas.
