La generacin de electricidad en Chile se basa principalmente en centrales hidrulicas y trmicas; sin embargo en los ltimos aos se han hecho viables algunas alternativas de generacin de energa mediante recursos renovables no convencionales, como son la energa elica y la geotrmica, que presentan la posibilidad de diversificar la matriz energtica y de generar energa de manera ms amigable con el medio ambiente. La diversificacin del sistema es necesaria para no depender fuertemente de combustibles (que no se producen en el pas) o condiciones climticas (sequas). Si bien hasta hace poco ninguna alternativa de Energas Renovables No Convencionales (ERNC) resultaba lo suficientemente atractiva en Chile, en los ltimos aos se han ido haciendo atractivas gracias a las alzas de los precios de los combustibles, la disminucin de los costos de instalacin de estas tecnologas, y la importancia que se est dando al medio ambiente (incentivos mediante Leyes y MDL). Este libro presenta algunas caractersticas necesarias para que el desarrollo de un parque elico sea lo suficientemente atractivo en Chile, as como algunas dificultades que enfrenta este tipo de proyectos.
