Profesores e investigadores del Centro de Bioactivos Qumicos de La Universidad Central Marta Abreu de Las Villas realizaron un estudio con el propleos rojo de la costa norte de la regin central de Cuba. Se efectu el tamizaje fitoqumico, as como la evaluacin de la toxicidad aguda, drmica y oftlmica de los mismos. En el tamizaje fitoqumico encontramos una gran variedad de metabolitos dentro de los que se destacan flavonoides, coumarinas, triterpenos y/o esteroides, fenoles y/o taninos, aceites esenciales, resinas, y principios amargos. Al determinar la toxicidad aguda por el mtodo de las clases de toxicidad (ATC) se catalog como no clasificado, segn lo estipulado por la OECD. En el caso de la determinacin de la irritabilidad drmica y oftlmica se consider el compuesto objeto de estudio como No Irritante Drmico y Oftlmico. Dichos resultados forman parte del expediente maestro que posibilit la comercializacin de este propleos como materia prima para la produccin de cosmticos en la Industria Cubana (Suchel Camacho S.A).
