La Influenza porcina es causada por un virus de Influenza tipo A que pertenece a la familia Orthomixoviridae. La influenza porcina ha evolucionado de ser una enfermedad estacional a ser una enfermedad endmica. En Guatemala el estudio de la Influenza se inicia a partir del ao 1996, como parte del programa de vigilancia epidemiolgica consecuente al aparecimiento de Influenza aviar de elevada patogenicidad en paises vecinos. Se realiz el primer monitoreo de Influenza H1N1 Y H3N2 en porcinos de la Repblica de Guatemala. El moonitoreo se realiz durante el perodo febrero a noviembre de 2010, colectandose un total de 2,055 sueros, los cuales 1017 procedan de cerdos de granjas tecnificadas y 1038 de cerdos de granjas no tecnificadas. Las muestras fueron analizadas en el Laboratorio de Referencia Regional de Sanidad Avcola LARRSA de la Facultad de Medicina Veterinaria y Zootcnia, empleando la tcnica de Inhibicin de la Hemoaglutinacin HI. Se consider positivo para ambos serotipos el suero cuyo titulo fue mayor o igual a 1:80. La importancia de este proyecto es debida al brote de Influenza pandmica H1N1/2009 por la posible recombinacion viral inter especie.
