Die medizinische Ausbildung befindet sich im Wandel. Sptestens seit den 80er Jahren wird dem Regelstudium Medizin vorgehalten, dass es zu theorielastig ist und zu wenig praktische Erfahrungen mit dem Arztberuf ermglicht. Das Universittsklinikum HamburgEppendorf hat auf die anhaltende Kritik von rzten, medizinischen Fachvertretern, Dozenten und Studierenden reagiert und im WS 01/02 den Modellstudiengang Medizin implementiert, dessen Curriculum auf der lerndidaktischen Methode des problemorientierten Lernens basiert. In der Dissertation wird die Auswirkung des Modellstudiengangs auf die Studierenden untersucht. Grundlegende Fragestellung ist dabei, ob sich Regelstudierende von ihren Kommilitonen des Modellstudiengangs hinsichtlich ihres Grundlagenwissens, ihres klinischen Wissens, ihrer praktischen Fertigkeiten, ihres Lernverhaltens, ihrer Motivation und Zufriedenheit sowie hinsichtlich institutioneller Kriterien wie Studienabbruch und Studiendauer unterscheiden. Diese Wirkungsanalyse bereichert die aktuelle Diskussion um die Reformierung des Medizinstudiums. Methodisch ist sie auch als Anwendungsbeispiel der modernen Evaluationsforschung zu verstehen.
