Debieron transcurrir 79 aos, entre el telescopio de refraccin de Galileo y el de reflexin de Newton, constituyendo esto un gran salto en la Astronoma. En la actualidad, durante el tiempo de construccin de un avanzado telescopio, ya se esta diseando el que lo superar en prestaciones. Esta carrera, ha permitido detectar y estudiar fuentes de energa cada vez ms dbiles, permitindonos acercar ms a los vestigios del origen del Universo. En este libro se expone la evolucin del diseo de los telescopios pticos, cuyo dimetro supera al metro, desde el que construy Herschel, pasando por otros clsicos, que han sido vitales en el desarrollo de la Astronoma moderna, como por ejemplo el de Monte Palomar, hasta llegar a los ms modernos telescopios que estn en operacin, construccin y proyecto.
