Sie ist angelehnt an Sartres existenzielle Psychoanalyse und bewegt sich damit im sehr breiten Spektrum der existenziellen Psychologie. Sie betrachtet den Menschen als permanent in den Versuch involviert, sich psychodynamisch vor der Angst der Sinnlosigkeit und der psychischen NichtExistenz zu schtzen. Der Mensch wei, im Unterschied zum Tier, dass er sterben wird. Zum Leben muss er aber diese Existenz oder Todesangst auf Distanz halten und abwehren. Gelingt ihm das nicht in ausreichendem Mae, wird er seelisch krank und greift zu radikalen psychopathologischen Strategien, um sich der sich aufdrngenden Angst zu entledigen. In dieser Betonung der letzten wichtigen Dinge des Lebens, denen sich jeder Einzelne irgendwann selbst stellen muss, ist dieses Buch eindeutig in der Existenzphilosophie J. P.
