This outstanding resource opens with chapters that provide background and conceptual framework for the remainder of the book. They describe and illustrate the nature of science and discuss its implications for the elementary school science curriculum. Later chapters contain three developmental teaching modelsexperiential, discovery, and inquiryand three corresponding activity chapters. The models are designed to meet the unique informationprocessing capabilities of children at different developmental stages and to correspond to the developmental stages of science. Each model is intended to promote content learning and process skill acquisition, as well as help children understand the nature of science.
