Fr Wissenschaftler und Verfassungsschtzer bietet die Partei hinsichtlich ihres extremistischen Charakters ein ambivalentes Bild. Neben SEDAltkadern mit zwielichtiger Vergangenheit sind in der LINKEN viele ehemalige SPDMitglieder, Gewerkschafter, Friedensaktivisten, Globalisierungskritiker, ehemalige DKPMitglieder, linksorientierte Jugendliche, AntifaMitglieder und Erwerbslose organisiert. Aufgrund dieser sehr unterschiedlichen politischen Herkunft ihrer Mitglieder setzt DIE LINKE auf einen gelebten innerparteilichen Pluralismus der Parteiflgel und Organisationen. Dabei toleriert und frdert DIE LINKE aber auch offen extremistische Organisationen in der Partei. Weiterhin zeigt die dauerhafte Zusammenarbeit mit der DKP, dass der Partei Berhrungsngste zum linksextremen Milieu fehlen. Auch sind das Verhltnis zur Geschichte der Partei und die Stellung zu Diktaturen innerhalb der LINKEN verdchtig. In ihrer ffentlichkeitsarbeit sowie dem Wahlkampf jedoch zeigt die Partei ein anderes Bild. Der Stil der Wahlkampfmedien ist an den der anderen Parteien angelehnt und oftmals nicht davon zu unterscheiden. Die Wahlslogans sind auf den ersten Blick bewusst harmlos und oftmals stark positiv konnotiert. Auch die Wahlkampfauftritte des Spitzenduos Oskar Lafontaine und Gregor Gysi sind zwar oftmals als populistisch zu bezeichnen, aber keineswegs als extremistisch beeinflusst.
