Originally published in 1922, The Fairy Tales of Charles Perrault is a wonderful collection of some true classics of children's literature. Perrault (1628 1703) was among the first writers to bring magical children's stories into the literary mainstream, proving to his original seventeenth century readers that such works were important, enjoyable, as well as thoughtprovoking. They remain as popular today, as they were then. This edition contains ten of Perrault's most famous works, including 'Cinderilla', 'Little Red Riding Hood', 'Sleeping Beauty in The Wood', and 'The Master Cat or Puss in Boots', 'Blue Beard', 'Donkeyskin' and others. The Fairy Tales of Charles Perrault are accompanied by the dazzling illustrations of a master of the trade; Harry Clarke (1889 1931). Clarke was an Irish stainedglass artist and book illustrator and a leading figure in the Irish Arts and Crafts Movement. His drawings were inspired by the Art Nouveax style so typical of this period and his sinuous lines combined with delicate colouring earned him a reputation as a preeminent illustrator of the 'Golden Age.' Presented alongside the text, Clarke's enchanting creations serve to further refine and enhance Perrault's magical storytelling making this a book to be enjoyed and appreciated, by both young and old alike.
