Virginia Woolf is thought to be the foremost modernist writer of the twentieth century. Her most famous writings are reproduced in full in a single volume: Mrs Dalloway (1925), A day in the life of a woman who is preparing a party. The novel stretches forwards and backwards in time as Clarissa wonders about the choices she has made. To the Lighthouse (1927) a novel about loss and subjectivity. The Modern Library named it as No. 15 on its list of the 100 best Englishlanguage novels of the 20th century in 1998. It was also chosen by TIME magazine as one of the one hundred best Englishlanguage novels from 1923 to present in 2005. Orlando (1928) a semibiographical novel based in part on her bisexual lover Vita SackvilleWest, it is considered to be Woolf's most accessible work. A Room of One's Own (1929) a long essay based on talks that Woolf gave at Cambridge. It is seen as a feminist text, with women writers needing to find a place in a tradition dominated by men.
