Farewell Anatolia is a tale of paradise lost and of shattered innocence; a tragic fresco of the fall of Hellenism in Asia Minor; a stinging indictment of Great Power politics, oillust and corruption.Dido Soterious novel a perennial bestseller in Greece since it first appeared in 1962 tells the story of Manolis Axiotis, a poor but resourceful villager born near the ancient ruins of Ephesus. Axiotis is a fictional protagonist and eyewitness to an authentic nightmare: Greeces Asia Minor Catastrophe, the death or expulsion of two million Greeks from Turkey by Kemal Attaturks revolutionary forces in the late summer of 1922.Manolis Axiotis chronicle of personal fortitude, betrayed hope, and defeat resonates with the greater tragedy of two nations: Greece, vanquished and humiliated; Turkey, bloodily victorious. Two neighbours linked by bonds of culture and history yet diminished by mutual greed, cruelty and bloodshed.

I was really looking forward to 'Anatolia', but the book arrived with some pages damaged. It was frustrating because I wanted to gift it to a friend who loves Greek literature. The content seemed interesting, but the physical quality left much to be desired.

Mixed Feelings About This Collection
I appreciated the effort behind 'Anatolia', but some stories felt a bit hit or miss for me. While there were definitely highlights, a few felt too abstract. Still, it's a decent read if you're curious about modern Greek writers. Just not all stories resonated with me.

A Deep Dive into Greek Literature
As a fan of modern literature, I found 'Anatolia' to be a treasure trove of stories. The selection of writers truly represents the diversity of Greek voices today. Each piece is well-translated and provides a unique perspective on contemporary life. I couldn't put it down!
